Three new studies are now underway at AUA, demonstrating our commitment to advance knowledge in urological conditions.
1. Measurement of telomerase in the urine - AUA remains the only site in Australia testing this new technique. The study aims to determine if this urine test is helpful in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with bladder, prostate and kidney cancers. Further information about this study can be seen at www.abc.net.au/insidebusiness/content/2009/s2717096.htm
2. In conjunction with the Monash University Department of Psychology and Cabrini Institute, we are studying whether PSA testing and monitoring causes anxiety in men with prostate cancer compared to men without any prostate disease. This will provide much needed information about supports that may be required by men who are being regularly tested and monitored for prostate disease.
3. Also in conjunction with Monash University and Cabrini Health, AUA urologists are contributing to a database and registry of prostate cancer patients, so that outcomes can be closely examined and quality of care is optimised for all prostate cancer sufferers.
